Lunch Club Premier 2025

In this session, Norbert Kienzel, CBT’s new Centre Development Manager, shared his career journey, and PhD Candidates were rewarded and reported back from industry internships 2024. The event was hosted by Jacqui McGovern, Internal Engagement Lead.

Two previous successful CBT internship applicants talked about their experiences. Brooke Lundon interned with Gelomics Pty Ltd and her topic was the Business of Science. Timo Baroth’s topic was Navigating an R&D Internship: From Application to Final Presentation and his industry partner was Stryker.

Jovanna has excelled in her PhD journey, earning numerous prestigious awards and global recognition. She participated in the Youth Solutions Program 2022 and was a finalist in the University Startup World Cup 2022. She was selected for the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust Network and won the Audience Award at Falling Walls Lab Brisbane 2023, representing QUT. She presented at the HPAIR Harvard Conference 2024, joined the Bridge Tech Program 2024, and won the People’s Choice Award in QUT’s 3MT Competition 2024. Jovanna was also named a VV Visionary 2024 by Vital Voices and Estée Lauder for her global leadership and impact.

Dr Norber Kienzle, CBT Centre Development Manager: My Career Journey
Norbert brings over 20 years of experience in strategic partnerships and brand development across universities, biomedical research institutes, and the biopharmaceutical industry. With a deep passion for research, Norbert has published nearly 50 research papers, holds patents, and has secured numerous grants. His previous roles at IMB/UQ and Mater Research saw him facilitating successful collaborations between researchers, clinicians, industry, and government, leading to significant translational research outcomes and revenue generation. Norbert’s extensive network and proven track record in fostering impactful partnerships will be invaluable to the continued success of CBT’s initiatives.

Brooke Lundon, PhD Candidate: The business of science. Industry Partner: Gelomics Pty Ltd
Brooke conducted her industry internship at the Brisbane-based startup company Gelomics Pty Ltd. Working closely with the R&D team, Gelomics executives and marketing, Brooke worked on demonstrating the capabilities of their flagship product, LunaGel, and identifying application of novel Gelomics’ products within the drug discovery market.

Timo Baroth, PhD Candidate: Navigating an R&D Internship: From Application to Final Presentation.
Industry Partner: Stryker
Timo conducted her industry internship at the Brisbane-based Stryker R&D Lab. In his talk, Timo will share his overall internship experience, including the application process, how he found and secured the opportunity, organisational challenges and valuable insights he gained about working in the industry.
