Queensland Motorcycle & Scooter Rider Survey

Information for Prospective Participants

What is the purpose of the research?

The purpose of this project is to investigate characteristics and safety-related attitudes and behaviours of Queensland motorcycle, scooter and moped riders. The outcomes from this project will be used to mitigate risk and reduce motorcycle crashes in Queensland.

Are you looking for people like me?

You are invited to participate in this project if you are a motorcycle or scooter rider residing in Queensland. You will need to currently hold at least a motorcycle learners licence.

What will you ask me to do?

We will ask you to complete a 42 item anonymous online survey with Likert scale answers (strongly agree – strongly disagree) that will take up to 30 minutes of your time. The survey is best completed using a PC or tablet device. The survey may be completed on a smartphone, however it is not designed specifically for such devices.

Are there any risks for me in taking part?

There are minimal risks associated with your participation in this research project. These include:

· potential discomfort from answering questions about past crashes and/or

· potential discomfort from answering questions about illegal on-road behaviours.

It should be noted that if you do agree to participate you can withdraw from participation in the research project without comment or penalty.

Are there any benefits for me in taking part?

It is not expected that this project will directly benefit you. However, it may benefit the general community through improved road safety, and motorcyclists generally, through reducing the effects of motorcycle crashes.

Will I be compensated for my time?

To recognise your contribution should you choose to participate the research team is offering you the chance to win one of twenty, $100 Coles/Myer vouchers.

Who is funding this research?

This project is being funded the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads (DTMR), however they will not have access to personally identifying information about you that may be obtained during the research project.
