Using crowd sourced data to improve road management

The traditional model of collecting road asset information via a car-mounted camera can be unreliable. Automated vehicle and associated technologies have now evolved to a level where the road network can be mapped in near real time. Car manufacturers and automotive equipment suppliers now collect road network and vehicle data to create a more accurate and dynamic representation of the road environment. Due to the rising number of vehicles being fitted with these new technologies, there is now a high volume of crowd sourced road network data. This project will access one or more of the commercially available crowd sourced data sources and develop tools to address several road operator use cases, including maintenance and safety.
