The introduction of connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) will create a mix of conflicting goals for the transport system. Through the generation of a fundamental knowledge of operational algorithms and analytics for CAVs, and the development of innovative tools for their operation, this research aims to create a balance between road safety and efficiency.
Expected outcomes include the development of traffic models capable of the co-estimation of efficiency and safety impacts of CAVs, and control strategies to safely and efficiently integrate CAVs into existing transport systems.
