PhD Research: Can Automated Vehicles be safer by sharing the Vehicle's Intended Pathway via an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display?

Being a driver of a semi-automated vehicle could be a daunting task, especially since you may not know what the vehicle’s exact intentions are. For example, you may be unsure if the car has seen the bend in the road ahead, next to that cliff-edge, or whether the car will stop and give way at the stop sign ahead. This research project aims to determine whether an intended pathway, displayed through an Augmented Reality Head-Up Display, could help drivers foresee what the upcoming maneuvers of a semi-automated vehicle will be, and whether it results in improved road safety outcomes.
