A Minimum Passing Distance road rule was introduced in Queensland in 2014 to improve the safety of cyclists riding on the road. Whilst the road rule was introduced, enforcement is challenging. The purpose of this project was to identify possible devices that measure passing distances, and trial their use in Queensland. In addition, the project trialed the use of video capture devices to enforce the road rules and document the requirements for using video data for enforcement and prosecution.
