Online brief intervention program for drink driving offenders

The project background identified the need to develop an online training program that can be developed for first offender drink drivers. The content components of a brief drink driving intervention program should be established on evidence based best practice and include the feedback provided by participants in the current study. In the context of drink driving, the benefits of a brief online intervention for first time offenders include:

  • Cost effectiveness
  • Access
  • Privacy
  • Anonymity
  • Autonomy, self-paced learning

The Steering Clear program is a research-based, self-guided web-based therapeutic intervention. The program aims to reduce drink driving by making those apprehended aware of their personal risk factors and potential consequences of a second drink driving offence. Furthermore, it will allow participants to build personalised plans for the future to prevent them from drink driving, using an online web app.
