Nudging for change: Design and evaluation of roadside messaging to encourage safer road user behaviours

TMR is trialling a new roadside behaviour change technology that will be able to detect dangerous driving behaviours including mobile phone use and tailgating and provide real-time feedback to drivers about their behaviour. The feedback will be provided to drivers via purpose-devised and tested messaging which will be displayed on roadside variable message signs (VMS).

CARRS-Q is undertaking the development and testing of the messaging as well as the on-road evaluation of this technology. On-road field trials will occur in 2024 with the project already underway with messaging development and testing.
