Project dates: 01/01/2021 - 20/12/2021
This research project is focused on transforming waste powder generated from natural resources into engineered shapes that have applications in bioprocessing and agrifood systems. Converting powered material into beads and extrudates requires a convoluted mixture of active material, binders and additives. What we’ve been able to do is adjust and quantify the rheological properties of these mixtures with specialist instruments. This has enabled rapid development of the shaping methodologies. Application testing of the developed material is currently underway for use as a pyrolysis catalyst and as a substrate for peptide functionalisation.
