Roopa Letchumann

    Roopayamini Fai Letchumann completed her BSc with first class Honours in Biotechnology at Flinders Universtiy, South Australia in 2016. She started her PhD at QUT in 2016 under the guidance of Dr. Upendra Shekhawat, Dr. Jean-Yves Paul, Prof. Rob Harding and Dist. Prof. James Dale. A recipient of QUT Postgraduate Research Award, Roopa’s research focuses on generating genetically-modified banana plants with host-induced gene silencing (HIGS) mediated resistance against Fusarium wilt.  In her penultimate year of her studies, she is also working as a Research Assistant in the Banana Biotechnology Program’s Plant Manipulation and Propagation laboratory. Roopa assists in the generation, maintenance, multiplication and transformation of banana embryogenic cell suspension to further the understanding of disease resistance strategies and nutrient profile of banana plants.
