Muhammad Bahrul Ulum is a PhD student at the School of Law, Queensland University of Technology (QUT). He completed Bachelor of Laws at University of Jember and LLM at Osmania University. After working as assistant public lawyer at the Legal Aid Institute (LBH) Surabaya, he spent seven years as a university lecturer and one year as a legal drafter for the standard of norms and settings at Indonesia’s National Human Rights Commission. His visiting research at Nagoya University as well as earlier works on agricultural and food regulations motivated him at QUT to pursue a PhD. Throughout his PhD research, Muhammad investigates how the Indonesian government’s decision-making on agricultural land use can empower small-scale farmers to retain access to land resources for their livelihoods and assesses to what extent its framework can realise the right to food. Muhammad enjoys traveling, hiking, and cycling in his free time.
