Sustainable land and business management in the beef industry – Podcast episodes

Elephant in my paddock podcast imagery

Dr Rudi Messner, Professor Carol Richards and Professor David Rowlings have developed a series of podcasts which report on their research in the beef grazing sector. These were developed with Jayne Cuddihy, a grazier and journalist from Moura, QLD, and present research insights in a format that producers can listen to at home or in the paddock.

Some curious insights include producer experiences of satellite surveillance, how carbon economies favour degraded land, and how the banking and investment sectors may have an impact on future food security (spoiler alert: it’s not always positive).

You can listen to the podcast episodes below:

Episode 1 – Get Shocked: Sustainable Grazing*
Are you worried about food security in Australia? Maybe you should be. Dr Rudi Messner and Dr Carol Richards discuss food security and food system shocks with producers and researchers:

Episode 2 – Who is looking after the farmer?
Wellness and self care – they aren’t concepts talked about too often when you’re running a busy farming business. But should they be? Dr Carol Richards and Dr Rudi Messner discuss what producers are doing to look after themselves and by default their businesses and how goals are being achieved, no matter what grazing system is utilised:

Episode 3 – What came first, the grass or the cattle?
An exploration into the changing patterns of land management amidst new carbon economies (with grazier/soil scientist Professor Dave Rowlings):
