Members of the House Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Resources visited the Centre of Agriculture and the Bioeconomy (CAB) to understand the research and commercialisation that is shaping future food and beverage manufacturing. QUT provided one of three site visits across Queensland to inform the inquiry into Food and Beverage Manufacturing in Australia on 12 June 2024. The group, led by Committee Chair, Mr Rob Mitchell MP, visited the QUT Biofactory, Fermentation and Bioprocessing Laboratory, and Synthetic Biology Laboratory in Q Block, Gardens Point campus.
Dr Hope Johnson and Assoc Prof Bree Hurst, in response to their submission to the Committee, were invited to attend the public hearing in Brisbane on Thursday 13 June. Head of the CAB Food Innovation Program at QUT, Prof Jolieke van der Pols also contributed to a further submission placed by Australia’s national Food and Beverage Accelerator (FaBA) of which QUT is a lead infrastructure, research and development partner.
The inquiry will look at opportunities for expanding innovation and value-adding in the food and beverage manufacturing industry in Australia.
