The Australian South Sea Islander Story in Education: A Policy Review

Project overview

There is limited literature about the impact that policy has had on Australian South Sea Islander people and their children within an educational context.  The objectives of this research is to examine Australian federal, state and territory education policy and literature, published between 1860-2020 in relation to the treatment of Australian South Sea Islander students.

This research addresses the question of how policy has shaped the educational landscape of Australian South Sea Islander students over the last 150 years.

The research methodology is qualitative and will include a citation search on relevant Australian South Sea Islander literature, a review, and analysis on policy impacting upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander people and, interviews of Australian South Sea Islander people and their experiences in education.
