We’re delighted that Olivia McGifford is part of the Burns and Trauma Research Team. Olivia is undertaking an Honours Project*
“I’ve joined the Burns and Trauma Research Group to complete an Honours project. Over the next few months I will be working on growing skin in the laboratory. I’m examining how it grows on ‘dermal replacement matrix’, a type of skin base layer that is currently used under skin grafts to treat burns. The development of this laboratory skin model will enable us to test new burn wound treatments in the future.”
* The QUT Bachelor of Science (Honours) is an additional year of study in a Bachelor of Science degree. It allows students to complete a research project in a specialised area, with the aim of preparing them for a career in research or professional employment in science.
