Opportunity for a clinical-focused biologist to conduct PhD with the team

The team is looking for new research students in 2017 to undertake several different research projects.  The main focus of the lab group is to conduct research which aims to improve the lives of children affected by burn injury through developing new therapies to enhance wound healing and reduce scarring and understanding how burn injuries occur and how to prevent them.

PhD – Biomarkers of healing in burned children   Predicting how well children with burn injuries will heal is important in order to provide best treatment and reduce scarring. In this project, saliva will be collected from children at the Queensland Children’s Hospital and analysed for proteins and inflammatory markers. These markers will then be related to the patient’s wound healing outcomes to identify potential biomarkers that can predict patient healing trajectories. This project will involve working in the hospital burn clinic, contact with patients and their families, mass spectrometry/proteomic techniques and ELISAs/Western blotting. Students who have an interest in the clinical applications of laboratory work and working in a hospital environment are encouraged to apply. Please contact A/Prof Leila Cuttle for more information
