B.Eng (Hons) (Medical)
Rachel Chalmers commenced her PhD Candidature with the Biomechanics and Spine Research Group at QUT in February 2021. During her QUT undergraduate engineering degree, Rachel completed both her Work-Integrated Learning (2018) and Honours projects (2019) with the BSRG team. She has also attended Utrecht University (Netherlands), completing a summer school program in regenerative medicine, 3D printing and biofabrication.
Her interests are in 3D modelling and additive manufacturing of custom-fabricated medical devices. Rachel’s project is focused on the design and validation of a workflow to additive manufacture bespoke spinal orthoses. Her project is patient-centric and has a clinical translation for the conservative bracing management of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
Rachel’s supervisory team consists of Associate Professor Paige Little, Dr Marie-Luise Wille, Distinguished Professor Dietmar Hutmacher, Adjunct Professor Geoff Askin and Adjunct Associate Professor Robert Labrom.
