Congratulations to our own Associate Professor Paige Little who received a Wonderful Women of Waterford Award presented to her on International Women’s Day! Paige was nominated for this prestigious award by the Attorney General, Hon Shannon Fentiman MP for her work in designing and implementing the ASPIRE programme (Applied STEM Projects for Immersive Real-World Education). This programme engages with students from backgrounds of socio-economic disadvantage and diverse cultural heritage.
All students need a champion and A/Prof Paige Little is a champion for Mabel Park State High School students with her efforts to break down existing barriers by providing opportunities for promising female scientists to believe they can pursue careers in STEM. The programme connects the students regularly with academic mentors from QUT’s Faculty of Engineering so they can experience a world that otherwise they may have imagined was out of their reach. Paige’s passion and commitment to the ASPIRE programme is infectious and has encouraged a large and growing team of QUT academic mentors to join this cutting edge programme which encourages the students to dream big and reach for an exciting future career in STEM.
