Bernadette’s Talk

Title: Queensland Government’s Use of AI: A progress report on the last year

Abstract: The Queensland Government is taking a proactive and measured approach to the use of artificial intelligence through initiatives like QChat, a sandboxed AI assistant based on Azure OpenAI services. This is a state-managed version of ChatGPT designed to explore the responsible application of generative AI in the public sector. QChat enables public servants to safely test and evaluate AI capabilities for tasks such as summarising documents, drafting correspondence, and enhancing citizen services, all within a secure, privacy-conscious environment. This initiative forms part of a broader digital transformation strategy aimed at building internal AI literacy, maintaining data sovereignty, and ensuring compliance with public sector ethics and transparency obligations.

Bernadette is a member of the Queensland Government AI Community of Practice. She will speak on the uses, experiences and uptake of the QChat and related initiatives the Queensland Government is undertaking on the responsible use of AI, including the Artificial Intelligence Governance Policy.
