This week we have presentations by Matt and Leah. Details on their presentations are included below.
Matt’s talk: “Title: Oxford to Paris
I’ll be summarising my recent trip and showing some of the interesting work that people are doing in various areas overseas. In particular, I’ll be summarising some of the work I saw over in the Big Data Institute and Stats department (Oxford and London) and some interesting Biological datasets from Inserm (Paris). ”
Leah’s talk: “Title: Introduction to importance sampling
Importance sampling is a useful tool in rare event estimation and in situations where direct sampling from a target distribution is not possible. In this talk I will be describing the basic importance sampling method and giving a quick demo in R. Importance sampling is a core component of several other computational Bayesian statistics methods; I will point out a few of these in my talk.”
We look forward to seeing you all there!
Best regards,
Matt and Shovanur
