Holistic BPM – Expanding the scope and impact of BPM

Context

How ‘process-centricity’ aids to create solid enterprise-design efforts has been well established. Yet, despite large investments in BPM over decades, organisations are still left with process fragments (e.g. seeing ‘process-trees’ rather than the entire ‘BPM-forest’). This was evident during the COVID-19 pandemic with organisations struggling with ‘broken’ processes; unable to deal with dynamic changes. Through this project, we have made global-level calls for the BPM discipline; arguing how a new mindset shift is needed to current BPM practice. Through a series of presentations and short papers, we present how BPM CAN contribute towards addressing BIG global challenges, but only with a critical mind-set change.

The primary aim is to join forces with the broader BPM community to derive a road map that will equip the discipline to generate long lasting impacts to support businesses and contribute to the greater good; both economically and socially. A secondary aim is to see how existing BPM artefacts can/ need to be enhanced to enable the missing holism in BPM practice.
