Project dates: 19/06/2013 - 01/08/2017
The project will address the grand challenge of developing and demonstrating economically sustainable bio-based technologies for the production of renewable fuels and chemicals from non-food and surplus non-fodder biomass feedstocks. This project draws on the collective expertise, background intellectual property (IP), pilot scale infrastructure and industry linkages of ten consortium partners from Australia and India. The consortium members have extensive track records and leading positions in core areas of bioenergy and biotechnology research, development and pilot scale demonstration. The consortium proposes an innovative yet pragmatic whole of supply chain approach to the selection of suitable biomass varieties, their characterisation and the development and integration of key enabling technologies in biomass densification, pretreatment and value adding, to produce biofuels, high value chemicals and animal feed.
