Jacqui Souvan is a Research Assistant within QUT’s Centre for Tropical Crops and Biocommodities (CTCB).

Jacqui has been a part of the CTCB since 2011. She completed her Honours Degree in 2012, working on a CTCB project towards identifying and characterising root-specific promoters in banana. Recent projects that Jacqui has been involved with include the manipulation of stomatal closure for improved water and sugar content in plants and the development of drought tolerant crops using novel genes identified from resurrection plants.

Jacqui’s current research is part of an Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) project that is focused on pre-treatment of sugarcane residues for the production of biogas and microbial oils.
