Associate Professor Junior Te'o

Junior Te’o (Associate Professor Valentino Setoa Junior Te’o) completed his PhD from Auckland University, New Zealand (1996) under the supervision of Professor Peter Bergquist in the field of Cellular and Molecular Biology, focusing on cloning, sequencing expression and characterization of thermophilic genes encoding thermostable hydrolytic enzymes for biomass hydrolysis.

Since 2014, Junior Te’o has been an Associate Professor in Microbial Biotechnology at QUT, where he contributes to research in the broad field of microbial/industrial biotechnology, runs a research group and teaches second and third year undergraduate students in microbiology, molecular biology and industrial biotechnology.

Prior to joining QUT, Junior worked with Macquarie University, and was awarded a Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor Innovation Fellowship in 2012-2013. From 2005 to 2011, he was one of four founding scientists and production manager for a spin-off biotechnology firm, and also worked as a PostDoctorate on bacterial and fungal genetics and biotechnology research  from 1997 to 2004.
