Thesis topic

“The effect of customer value propositions and message framings on customer engagement with imperfect produce”

Thesis project

Food waste is a rising global issue, generated at all points of the supply chain, contributing to increasing carbon emissions, driving up food prices and ultimately increasing food insecurity. As the connecting element between wholesaler and consumer, supermarkets are shown to be responsible for setting high aesthetic standards for the produce they buy and sell. These standards are set based on customers unwillingness to purchase and consume imperfect fruit and vegetables and lead to further waste generated by wholesalers and farmers through the rejection of this produce. My study will assess how customer value propositions and sociocultural food waste framings drive customer engagement in the purchase of  imperfect produce.
