This seminar provided insights from Dr Janina Garbas’ personal experience as a recent PhD graduate on:
(a) key learnings from the PhD journey
(b) how to navigate through the publication process at a leading marketing journal and,
(c) how to prepare for the job market with the ultimate goal of receiving a job offer.
The seminar started with a short research presentation of Janina‘s recently published research project, labeled ‘You want to sell this to me twice!? How perceptions of betrayal may undermine internal product upgrades’.
Afterwards, Janina shared her personal experiences on how to manage a PhD in marketing as well as some lessons learned from review processes of her research projects. Dr Garbas also explained how she prepared for the application process for the position of a postdoctoral researcher.

About The Speaker:
Dr Janina Garbas is a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Marketing of RWTH Aachen University in Germany. She holds a PhD from the University of Passau and graduated in 2022. Janina‘s research was recently published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science.
Her research interests are located at the intersection of marketing, consumer behavior, and technological innovation. In particular, she is interested in the transformation of products into dynamic service platforms, the virality of social media posts, privacy-related decision-making, and the impact of technology in retail and service environments on downstream consumer responses.
Janina has reviewed for several conferences, including AMA Winter & Summer Academic Conference, EMAC Annual Conference, Academy of Marketing Science Conference, European Conference on Information Systems, Global Marketing Conference and SERVSIG Conference.
