The National Standard Chart of Accounts

The National Standard Chart of Accounts Project emerged due to a lack of standardisation of accounting for nonprofit organisations particularly when delivering services for government. This project developed a standard chart of accounts which was subsequently adopted by COAG and then IP handed over to the Australian Charities and Nonprofits Commission (the national regulator for charities). So ACPNS research has influenced the accountability for nonprofit and charitable organisations in Australia with adoption by government regulators. The Canadian Government is now adopting this system, with help from ACPNS and ACNC.
