A lot of our research related to marine aerosols is conducted on research (and supply) vessels (R(S)V), namely RV Investigator and the Australian icebreaker, RSV Nuyina (and until 2020 RSV Aurora Australis ). RV Investigator has two dedicated laboratories for atmospheric sampling and a range of meteorological and atmospheric instruments (e.g. CPC, SMPS, CCNc ) that are continuously collecting data whenever the ship is underway. RSV Nuyina also has an air sampling inlet and a dedicated air chemistry laboratory.
We take our field-deployable mass spectrometers aboard these vessels (for example, the nitrate-CIMS has so far been deployed in five voyages). Below is a map with most of the voyages we participated in.
