The AMDTR’s mechanical testing laboratory has a collection of various equipment that can be used to carry mechanical tests of materials either as-manufactured, post-exposure to an environment, or in-situ under high temperature exposure conditions. The following is a list of available equipment and their capabilities.
MTS 810 – The MTS 810 system is a completely integrated testing package for obtaining mechanical properties. With the wide range of load unit, test control, and test accessory options, it is useful for carrying out a a variety of studies. These include fatigue life studies, crack propagation and fracture mechanics, tensile, compression and bend testing, and testing in extreme environments. Our MTS 810 is fitted out with a 100 kN hydraulic fatigue testing loadframe. It is capable of conducting tensile and compressive fatigue testing from 5 kN – 100 kN, up to 50 Hz. Accessories: Hydraulic Grips, Clevis (CT) grips, Extensometer.
Kappa DS – The Zwick Roell Kappa DS is a flexible electromechanical creep testing machine. It is equipped with a double lead screw and was designed for classic and advanced creep tests. The large crosshead travel and the associated expanded test area provide sufficient space for temperature, vacuum or inert gas chambers, making it useful for tests under various environmental conditions. It has a 100 kN Creep-fatigue loadframe. Creep, fatigue (tensile only), Tensile, stress relaxation testing up to 1150 C. Accessories: Contacting macro-extensometer (room temperature, full test range to rupture), non-contacting high temperature video extensometer, creep crack growth rate measurement (Direct Current Potential Drop – DCPD).
Instron 6800 – Instron Tensile/Compression test machines from 2 kN – 300 kN. The 6800 Series universal testing machines are designed to perform tensile, compression, flex, peel, puncture, friction, shear tests, and more. The systems are compatible with hundreds of grips and fixtures found in Instron’s expansive accessories catalog, with specific configurations designed to perform many of the most popular ASTM and ISO tests.
