The AMDTR’s high temperature testing laboratory has a collection of various furnaces that can be used to conduct high temperature exposure tests. The following is a list of available furnaces and their specifications.
Tetlow tempering furnaces – The group has several tempering furnaces manufactured by Tetlow. These furnaces are typically used to alter physical and chemical properties of a material. Generally they are used to remove excess hardness and increase toughness by heating to a certain temperature and holding for a period of time. They are suitable for conducting long term isothermal experiments for exposure studies to various environments (molten salt or inert gas environments, or the combination of the two). Some of the furnaces can also be programmed to run a cycling heating profile.
Types of Tempering Furnaces available:
-Tetlow K4 10 Amp with constant temperature control. Max Temp of 1100 C (internal size: 330 x 330 x 330 mm)
-Tetlow K4 15 Amp with Stafford controller and programmability. Max Temp 1280 C (internal size: 330 x 330 x 330 mm)
-Tetlow K2 10 Amp with constant temperature control. Max Temp of 1100 C (internal size: 229 x 229 x 229 mm)
Tetlow octagonal furnaces – Multi-sided (octagonal) kilns are electrically connected, and is uniquely designed by Tetlow. The exclusive design uses a top loading configuration to place samples and is accommodating for irregularly shaped samples or apparatus.
Types of Octagonal Furnaces available:
-Tetlow Hex 12.5 Amp with Stafford or custom controller. Max Temp 1100 C (internal size: 280 dia x 395 mm tall)
Tube furnaces – The group has a vertical tube furnace that can accommodate a vacuum sealed quartz tube, which can heat a sample in vacuum or flowing gas. The precision temperature controller can provide 51 segments of heating and cooling steps with +/- 1℃ accuracy. It is designed for the heat treatment of all types of new materials under vacuum or other gas conditions up to 1600℃.
