We are excited to announce we have three PhD Scholarships open for prospective students interested in joining us for Semester 1, 2025. If you have a recent Honours or Masters degree with a significant research component, and/or equivalent industry research experience, we want to hear from you!

GenAI Sim – will look to take part in the design and evaluation of how new GenAI tools and techniques could be used to empower usually lesser heard voices, giving them agency to iterate through multiple possible future scenarios in a dynamic and interactive manner, through prompts or other basic instructions. Specific contexts include any of the major urban redevelopment projects being undertaken in Brisbane at present.
Australian Search Experience 2.0 – will undertake an independent PhD project aligned with the larger, multi-institutional Australian Search Experience 2.0 project within the ADM+S Centre. ASE 2.0 will generate large-scale observational data on the diversity of organic and paid search results and other content on search results pages from leading search engines, as systematically prompted by generative AI systems simulating the diversity of search queries employed by human users when searching for a given topic.
Australian Search Experience 2.0 and Australian Ad Observatory – will undertake an independent project aligned with the larger, multi-institutional Australian Ad Observatory and Australian Search Experience 2.0 projects within the ADM+S Centre. These projects will generate large-scale observational data on the advertising content displayed to users as they browse their social media feeds or receive search engine results, alongside limited information on how and why specific users were targeted by particular ads. Depending on how newer Generative AI systems are integrated into search and social media it may be that we also see advertising content woven into GenAI prompt responses, and this would present an additional use case for analysis.
