The ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society (ADM+S) is calling for expressions of interest for a PhD scholarship opportunity in its news and media focus area. The successful applicant will undertake research on social and cultural aspects of automation in the digital news, media, and entertainment environment, using a combination of qualitative, critical, and digital approaches. The proposed project may cover issues such as algorithmic content curation and moderation, advertising, critical platform studies, or automation in journalism. The PhD researcher will be based in QUT’s Digital Media Research Centre, and will also collaborate closely with other Australian and international university and industry partners in ADM+S.

Supervisor
The successful candidate will be working under the direction of Professor Jean Burgess and/or another ADM+S Investigator in either QUT’s School of Communication or School of Law. The candidate will have the opportunity to participate in the vibrant research cultures of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Automated Decision-Making and Society and QUT’s Digital Media Research Centre.
