International collaboration – Down Under!

Posted on behalf of Ruth Überbacher – Free University of Bozen Bolzano

I have been a PhD visiting student at the Queensland University of Technology from October 2019 to February 2020, where I was working at the Australian Centre for Entrepreneurship Research in close collaboration with Professor Martin Obschonka and Dr. Rui Torres de Oliveira. Together with them and my supervisor back home in Italy (Free University of Bozen-Bolzano), Professor Alfredo De Massis, we established a new research project on “Family Involvement and the Perceived Performance by Investors: The Role of Innovation and Institutions in a Longitudinal Cross-country Study which got submitted to the Academy of Management Conference 2020 and will be further developed as well as improved for a journal submission. Besides this, I also participated in several research seminars and workshops offered by the University, which allowed me to improve my personal as well as professional skills. Furthermore, I presented one of my PhD dissertation projects at the Australian Centre for Family Business at Bond University, where I got great feedback and access to a new network. At the end of my stay, I also attended the doctoral consortium at the ACERE Conference 2020 in Adelaide, which was an amazing and unique experience. All in all, it has been an unforgettable and productive experience working at the Centre and getting to know so many top researchers from around the world. It was a pleasure to part of this team for some months and I would like to thank everyone who made this time so special.
