Haveena Anbananthan is a PhD candidate at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) specialising in the modelling and simulation of cardiovascular diseases, a focus she developed while earning her Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Medical Engineering, completed at QUT in 2020. Her undergraduate research, which explored methods to numerically model blood trauma caused by medical devices, was conducted in collaboration with the Innovative Cardiovascular Engineering and Technology Laboratory (ICETLab) at Prince Charles Hospital. Presently, Haveena aims to advance the understanding of intracranial aneurysms through research on their hemodynamics and vessel wall mechanics in partnership with neurosurgeons from the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH). The core of her work involves Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) simulations of intracranial aneurysms. To validate these simulations, she fabricates 3D-printed aneurysm models and uses particle image velocimetry (PIV) to visualise the flow.Projects
