Participate in research to help detect acute deterioration in residents: Information for Estia Health Staff

You are invited to participate in this research because you are a member of the nursing care staff at Estia Health, Twin Waters and your workplace has agreed to participate in the DETECT (Do Enact on Residents in Acute Deterioration) project being run by QUT.

What is the purpose of the research?

We are interested in the views of care staff, including registered nurses, nurse practitioners, enrolled nurses, assistants in nursing and personal care workers, about:

  • how acute deterioration of residents is currently identified
  • the actions taken when acute deterioration is detected, and
  • the support required to promote timely detection and action.

Findings from this project will inform the development of an intervention that promotes the detection of the early warning signs of acute deterioration in RACFs to improve outcomes for residents.

Staff discussionWhat do I have to do?

If you are willing to participate, you would attend a 1-hour online interview, either in a group session with your colleagues or on your own.

The types of questions we will ask you include:

  • What actions are taken to manage acute deterioration and avoid hospital transfer?
  • What clinical signs would trigger the transfer of a resident to hospital?
  • What are the barriers to, and facilitators of, early detection of acute deterioration?

When will it happen

  • For RNs and ENs— Date and Time TBA
  • For AINs and personal care workers— Date and Time TBA
  • OR you can book a session on your own.

We are offering you a $50 voucher to thank you for your contribution.
